ABSTRACT
Objectives: Oral Lichen Planus Is A Common Chronic In?ammatory Mucocutaneous Disease Associated With Cell-mediated Immunological Dysfunction. The Current Study Aimed To Test The Efficacy Of Topical Tacrolimus In Comparison To Triamcinolone Acetonide In Patients Suffering From Oral Lichen Planus.
Methods: The Study Included Forty Symptomatic Oral Lichen Planus Patients With Symptomatic Oral Lichen Planus. They Were Randomized Into Two Groups With Allocation Ratio 1:1; Group I Received Topical Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1% In Orabase (Kenacort?) And Group II Received Topical Tacrolimus 0.03% In Orabase.P Ain And Clinical Improvement Were Assessed Weekly For Four Weeks.
Results: No Statistical Significant Deference Was Detected In Pain Reduction And Clinical Improvement Between Topical Tacrolimus And Triamcinolone Acetonide In Treatment Of Symptomatic Oral Lichen Planus. The Most Common Side-effect In Both Groups Was Temporary Burning Sensation At The Site Of Application.
Conclusion: Both Studied Treatment Modalities Exhibited Acceptable Clinical Efficacy In Treatment Of OLP. Topical Tacrolimus Can Be Considered As A Good Alternative Topical Medication In The Treatment Of OLP.
